Who i am
I live for art and design and work in a variety of mediums including oil pastels, acrylic, pencil and collage but it is my love of textiles that always draws me back in. Through dyeing, weaving, stitching, knotting and tufting, I create not just visual pieces, but also tactile sensory experiences.
This isn’t your Grandmother’s needlework. The possibilities are endless. It’s like painting but with thread or wool that can be layered, stitched and dyed to create a piece of art that you not only want to look at but touch. It encapsulates textiles and art in all their glory – a truly multi-sensory experience.
Textile Art is a form of art that has been forgotten for way too long now. People are inclined to think of textiles only in the useful sense. They don’t think of it as something that might hang on a wall and have the qualities that a painting or sculpture has. The truth is, that Textile Art will last for centuries – some of the world’s oldest surviving textiles spanning thousands of years of Egyptian culture can be found in the Bolton Museum and Art Gallery. And yes, it WILL absorb that echoey sound in your room as well as warming up the space in both a physical and emotional way .......It’s a win/win for all concerned.
